You can now introduce your home to the Internet of things because People Power has given you the tools you need to set up an old smartphone to view live video, record video or take a picture with our free version of Presence with Geofencing, free. You can arm Presence Security sensors as well as Presence-enabled devices when you are away automatically with the Geofencing feature.
How does it work?
First, let’s take a look at how GeoFencing functions. GeoFencing is a virtual barrier that uses your phone’s GPS to tell Presence where you are, automatically. After giving the Presence App permission to identify your location, it will flip to “Home Mode” when you arrive in your home's radius, and it will flip to “Away Mode” when you leave. You’ll be able to set rules that arm or disarm individual, or all Presence Security enabled devices and sensors.
So, let’s say, you want to set up your Presence Security Motion Sensor in your garage and want to get notified if anything moves while you’re away. Good news, the default rules armed the Motion Sensor in “Away Mode.” The problem is when you are home you may often go into your garage, and you need to select manually “Home Mode” to disarm the Motion Sensor.
Geofencing immediately remedies that annoyance by automatically flipping you to the “Home Mode” when you're in the vicinity and back to "Away Mode" when you're not around.
OKAY Let's get started!
Let’s enable your Presence App with the geofencing feature! Make sure you are at the area you want to recognize as home. This helps Presence determine the radius of your home. Go to the main screen to the top portion telling you which mode you’re in, tap it. Below the selections on the “Mode” page you’ll see “Geofencing,” tap it. Now tap the refresh symbol on the map. Your app should pinpoint your exact location and you can now tap save and turn on geofencing when you're back on the “Mode” page.
Almost done, but back to our original problem; getting notified when you are in the garage and having to manually tap home in modes to get rid of those notifications from your Presence Security Motion Sensor. Here’s the good news, you don’t need to do anything. Your app should already recognize that you’re home and the Motion Sensor should already be disarmed. Now you can set custom rules with your app with other modes. For example, if you don't want to get notified if you are home but you do want to get alerted if you're asleep and someone or something is in the garage.
Here's how to set custom rule in "Sleep Mode."
Now the fun part comes into play with your Presence Security system. Thanks to the default away and home rules; if you want to get notified if someone is in your garage when you're not home, our infrared motion sensor can spot movement during day or dark. If you don't want to get notified because you are at home and grabbing a soda from the garage you won't get any alerts. But what if you're asleep at home and someone or something is at your tool box? Now that's Freaky! Here are your five steps to set a custom rule for this situation. There are a lot of "this" and "that" in the steps but if you follow along with your Presence App the following will make sense.
On the main Presence screen tap “Rules.” This will take you to the rules screen that lists all of the default rules already set up. Find the Motion Sensor, tap it and it will list out all the rules that are active and deactivated.
Tap “Add Rule” and you’ll go to a “Custom Rule” screen with a short sentence reading, “If This then That.” Tap “This” and a list of custom rules will appear, tap “my (the name you assigned your motion sensor) detects motion.”
Now tap the green “AND,” now select “I am in ‘Sleep’ Mode,”
Tap the green “that” and select which mobile device you want to be notified and if you’d like to receive an email. Congratulations! You’ll get a notification that someone or something is moving about in your garage while you’re in “Sleep Mode.”
Here is the beauty of this system. You can add other actions if this rule is triggered. You can arm other security sensors and turn on Presence connected devices, like lights or a just about anything you can plug into the wall thanks to our soon to be released Presence Smart Plug (first available to email subscribers). The custom settings are incredible and you can determine what works best for you.
By enabling the Geofencing feature on your free Presence App and Presence Security you've just made your mobile home security system and your home a lot smarter. Now you can customize to your lifestyle’s needs. We are here to help if you have any questions.
