You may have heard of them, have one of them in your neighborhood or maybe you have your own Little Free Library, a mini community lending library. These crafty DIY library boxes are showing up, seemingly everywhere around the world, inviting neighbors to "take a book, leave a book," and now you can include them with your Internet of Things by Presence.
Get notifications when people open your Little Free Library door and give other Presence App users notifications that a new book may be available! Neighborhood residents and visitors receive an evolving selection of books, free for the taking. In exchange, neighbors restock it with their own books, giving a fresh to stories that otherwise would collect dust on the coffee table, on a bookshelf or in a pile in the garage.
Presence Security provides a solution to let you and your neighborhood know about a new visitor, who may have included their own new addition to the library collection. All you need is a Presence Security Pack, an Entry Sensor, and your Little Free Library to be in the range of your Presence Gateway in your home. Here's how!
Position your Presence Entry Sensor
Get your Presence Security system to recognize the Presence Entry Sensor, name it, and get ready to put it inside the door of your Little Free Library. Before attaching the sensor make sure that it's in the range of your Presence Gateway included with your Security Pack with a quick test, holding the two parts together as they would if the door is closed then removing. You should see the actions on your phone. The sensors have their own adhesive tape but it's probably a good idea to use the included screws to help stop people from removing them. If you have a window on your Little Free Library attach the "Secured by Presence" window sticker to let your neighborhood know you're paying attention to your collection.
Set up Rules for your Little Free Library.
Set up a Presence App enabled camera
If your Little Free Library is in view outside a window you can easily set up a rule to take a picture when your door opens. This helps you identify vandals. You can also share the story of your library on social media by downloading the pictures or video onto your phone. If you can recognize people's faces though It's probably a good idea to ask permission from visitors before sharing on social media.
Invite your Neighbors to Recieve Notifications
If your neighbors are also Presence App users they too can get notifications from your Little Free Library. Simply tap 'Friends' on the home screen then tap 'Add Friends." You'll be able to invite them from your contacts, search for them by email or scan their app's bar code. After that just share the Little Free Library door notification with them.
