Nextdoor is a private social network for you, your neighbors and your community. It's an easy, and free way to help you and your neighbors to talk online and make all of your lives better in the real world. Presence App is a free way to make your old spare phone or tablet into a security camera and you can tap into your Nextdoor network to create a Presence Neighborhood Watch.
There is a strong possibility that Nextdoor is (or soon will be) in your neighborhood. According to the site's blog, over 97,000 neighborhoods are actively using the network, helping neighbors connect to warn each other of crime activity. So, let's get started!
It takes a little coordination and a team leader, but Nextdoor offers a perfect venue to round up your neighborhood watch group.
Post on your Nextdoor account that you want to start a free neighborhood watch webcam network. Invite them to download our Presence App onto their phone. After you have the group has assembled, share the emails that you each have enabled Presence with each other. It's good to choose an email that isn't your main email or simply create a new one. This way the email alerts you get will not become bothersome.
Now, there is a good chance that each member of your group has an old iOS or Android device laying around their homes. Ask them all to do the same, downloading the Presence App onto their spare phone or tablet. After you all have downloaded and signed up with the same email that each of you originally used with your phones you're ready to make those old spare devices neighborhood watch cameras.
Make the spare device a remote camera, position it at a window facing the street from inside your homes. You'll find a lot of stands and holders on the market that can help you position them. Also, make sure the camera is within reach of power so it can maintain a charge. In the options disable the microphone so people will not be able to hear what's going on in your home.
After everyone in your group has done the same you each can set rules for the camera that help you adjust the camera's sensitivity that's already built into the device. You can set times of the day or night to make your cameras active, and you all are ready to start sharing videos alerts with each other, notifying by email if any movement is recorded.
On the main menu of your Presence App you find 'Friends' and tap on it. Tap the green button, 'Add Friends' on the 'Friends' page. You can add people from your existing contacts or search for their email that they used to set up their Presence App camera.
Congratulations! You've just started your Presence Neighborhood Watch using your Nextdoor connections. Everyone will get an email notification when movement is recorded on the street. Now with this in place, you'll have a great resource to give to the authorities if crime activity is happening in your area.

Presence Security for More Neighbor-Assisted Protection
Presence Security helps alert you of important things that happen in your home when you're home or away. Our low-powered sensors help you detect motion, door entry, water leaks, temperature, and humidity conditions in your home. Thanks to our gateway, that's compatible with a growing list of devices entering the market, you not only get a live look at what's going on through your free Presence App, but you can control connected devices and set rules that trigger them to activate or deactivate.
Now when you are away and get an alert of a water leak or a potential break-in, you can ask a most trusted neighbor to check it out for you. You even can share the alerts, so both of you get informed at the same time, just in case you are on out of wireless or cellular range.
Technology is great, but we strongly advise that you be very particular with who and when you share your Presence Security sensor alerts from your home.
