BEFORE YOU GO
It's great to have the confidence that your home is protected while away on vacation. There are a few things we recommend to Presence App users to help keep their old smartphone or tablet cameras in top-working order and connected when you head out the door for some time away from home. Follow these quick 7-steps before you go.
STEP 1 - CHECK INTERNET CONNECTION
Make sure that the wireless signal is strong where you position your camera. Take a look at the wireless signal from your router on the device. Sometimes the signal is not as good as it is in other places in your home.
STEP 2 - MAKE SURE YOU'RE PLUGGED IN
Make sure that the devices are plugged in and not to an outlet that is controlled by the light switch. This will help prevent from accidentally powering off your camera when you leave and turn off the camera's charge. If you live in an area with frequent power outages it might be a good idea to invest in a backup power supply for your cameras and Internet router. This will help them stay connected in case of a short power outage from an electrical storm.
STEP 3 - UPDATE BOTH REMOTE AND CAMERAS
We're constantly improving the features of Presence App for our free and Pro Video users. It's a good idea to check for updates often so you can enjoy the full potential of your remote and camera devices.
STEP 4 - STOP AUTOMATIC APP UPDATES
On the same note, you should prevent automatic updates to eliminate the chances of your App updating on your remote but not your cameras. Here's how you do it!
STEP 5 - REFRESH CAMERAS
Soft resetting both devices will help you keep all of your data but cleans out your device to ensure that they are running on maximum efficiency.
If you have Android devices:
(Presence) Clear Data: << This is usually the most effective thing that you can do.
- Go to your Android Settings > Apps ( Applications ) > Presence> Clear Data.
STEP 6 - ENABLE SECURITY CAMERAS
Once you're in the Mobile app, tap into "This Camera". Your smartphone or tablet transforms into a camera. View your camera from anywhere in the world when you sign into Presence with the same username and password on a different smartphone or tablet. The iOS camera supports landscape and portrait. The Android camera supports landscape mode only.
STEP 7 - SET DEDICATED ACCESS
If you are operating on an iOS this helps prevent unwanted exiting of Presence or unwanted tampering. It's our enhancement to the iOS feature called Guided Access.
This requires you to make and enter your PIN number to exit your camera. Your camera will not crash or exit while it's running as a dedicated camera. Nobody can tamper with your saved videos or settings. This is highly recommended for every Presence camera.
Enable Dedicated Camera - Dedicated Camera helps protect your camera from crashes and tampering.
1. Tap into iOS Settings > General > Accessibility > Guided Access (at the bottom) > Turn on Guided Access
2. Open your Presence Camera
3. Triple-tap the Home Button on your iOS device to start Guided Access mode, transforming the device into a Dedicated Camera. You may need to teach your iOS device a PIN number the first time you open it.
4. Triple-tap the Home Button on your iOS device again and type in your PIN number to exit Dedicated Camera Mode
YOU'RE ALL SET, HAPPY TRAVELING!
