  3. How to install a Presence Entry Sensor
  4. How to install a Presence Motion Sensor
  5. How to install a Presence Temperature Sensor
  6. How to set up a Presence Camera

Download the Presence app.

Step 1:

Use these buttons to download the Presence app to your smartphone or to the computer you sync your phone with.

Step 2:

Open Presence and you’ll see the welcome screen.

Tap 'New User.'

Step 3:

Enter your email, desired password, and tap Register.

Step 4:

Tap “okay” or “allow” to the popups and help text.

When you get to the Yes/No buttons, tap “Add Devices” at the bottom.

This will activate your camera so you can scan the bar code on the back of the gateway in the next step.

How to install a Presence Gateway.

Step 1:

Locate the 'Presence Gateway' box and remove the contents.

Turn the gateway upside down and hold your phone over it like you're taking a picture.  Presence will automatically scan the bar code (QR code) when it's within the green box.

Note: If you don't have the QR code scanner open in Presence, tap the hamburger icon in the upper left corner > Cameras & Devices > Add Devices > Presence Gateway.

After the scan is accepted, plug the small micro USB side of the cable to the micro USB port on the Presence Gateway.

Step 3:

Plug the USB A side (larger side) of the cable into the power adapter

Step 5:

Now take the Presence Gateway, connected cables, and power adapter to your Internet connection. You are looking for any available Ethernet port. Typically, the ports are on the back of your modem or Wi-Fi router. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into an available Ethernet port.

Step 6:

Plug the power adapter into an available electrical power socket.

Notice that the Presence Gateway is powering up and going through a sequence of green and orange flashing lights.

Once you get a solid green light, you are ready for the next step and the app will advance automatically.

From here you can install the devices in any order you want. You're not required to install them all.

How to install a Presence Entry Sensor.

Step 1:

The Presence app will land back on the 'Cameras & Devices' page.  If not, tap the hamburger icon in the upper left corner > Cameras & Devices > Add Devices.

Step 2:

Tap on 'Presence Entry Sensor' to get started.

An animation will play while waiting for the sensor to connect.

Step 3:

Step 4:

There is a plastic tab that is sticking out of the Entry Sensor. Pull the tab completely out to pair the sensor with the Presence Gateway.

Step 5:

When the Entry Sensor connects, the app will automatically advance.

Follow the prompts on your smartphone to configure your sensor.

Step 6:

Now it's time to install your Presence Entry Sensor to the door or window of your choice.  Please take note of the little arrows found on both pieces.  Those arrows will need to be pointing at each other when installing on a door or window.

Please also note that doors and windows comes in all different shapes, sizes, and configurations so your installation may be unique. It's recommended to install the big piece on the door jam or window frame and install the little piece on the actual door or window that moves.  This configuration works great for doors and windows that open IN and the opposite works great for doors and windows that open OUT.

The goal is to position the two pieces as close to each other as possible without hitting anything while accommodating for challenging doors and windows with big gaps or crown molding.

IMPORTANT:  Experiment with the positioning before you stick them on because they are difficult to remove and reposition.  When ready, remove the adhesive protectors and firmly stick them into position.

The maximum distance between the two pieces should be no more than 1/2 inch.

Repeat these steps if you have multiple Presence Entry Sensors.

How to install a Presence Motion Sensor.

Step 1:

The Presence app will land back on the 'Cameras & Devices' page.  If not, tap the hamburger icon in the upper left corner > Cameras & Devices > Add Devices.

Step 5:

When the Motion Sensor connects, the app will automatically advance.

Follow the prompts on your smartphone to configure your sensor.

Step 6:

Now it's time to install your Presence Motion Sensor.  The goal is to position it in a high traffic area. Near the front door, living room, hallway or kitchen.  Basically where you would most likely catch an intruder in your home.

IMPORTANT:  Experiment with the positioning before you stick on the sensor because it is difficult to remove and reposition.  When ready, remove the adhesive protectors and firmly stick it into position.

Repeat steps if you have multiple Presence Motion Sensors.

Step 5:

When the Temperature Sensor connects, the app will automatically advance.

Follow the prompts on your smartphone to configure your sensor.

Step 5:

Now it's time to install your Presence Temperature Sensor.  The goal is to position it in a place where you would like to get temperature readings.  In colder climates, maybe in the basement where the pipes are.  In warmer climates, maybe the room that gets that afternoon sun that always gets so hot.  Either way, find a place that best suits you and place it there.  It is not a requirement to stick the Presence Temperature Sensor but you certainly can if you choose to.

IMPORTANT:  Experiment with the positioning before you stick on the sensor because it is difficult to remove and reposition.  When ready, remove the adhesive protectors and firmly stick it into position.

Repeat steps if you have multiple Presence Temperature Sensors.

How to set up a Presence Camera.

The beauty of Presence is that you can use a spare smartphone (iOS or Android) as a camera.  To do this, make sure the smartphone is on Wi-Fi and sign into Presence using your same email address and password.

Step 1:

From the main screen, tap "Use this device as a camera."

Step 2:

Tap “Options” at the top and select the following settings.

  1. Remote Control = On
  2. Motion Activated Alarm = Beep 1 time when motion is detected
  3. Motion Recording = On
Once Motion Recording is turned on, you will see a 30 second countdown after which the Camera will be armed.
  4. Time Between Recordings = 5 min
  5. Sensitivity = Detect Large Movements
  6. Allow Video = Off
    This will save battery life.
  7. Allow Microphone = On

To test the Presence Camera, go back to primary phone and switch to away mode. Wait until the countdown goes down to 0 on your Presence Camera, then walk right in front of the camera. You will then receive a push notification on your primary phone saying that motion was detected. These videos will be stored in the “Videos and Pictures” section of the Presence app.

Back on the camera screen, you can choose to have a back facing or front facing camera by clicking the flip camera icon.

Step 3: Creating Rules

One of the most powerful parts of Presence is the ability to choose how the sensors trigger notifications and other events.

To create rules, tap the hamburger icon in the top left corner, then tap on “Create Rules.”

Tap “Add Rule.”

You will now see a screen with “If This then That.

Follow the instructions by clicking on the green “This” button.

Depending on what devices have been added to your Presence app, you will be able to select conditions for the “This” part of the rule statement that apply to certain devices.  Select the “That” green button and choose the action you want the device to perform based on conditions previously set in the “This” part of the rules statement.

Note: You have the option to turn rules On or Off, or click into the specific rule and change the conditions within the If This Then That format as shown earlier.
